Framing Big Painters At Underglass

Framing big painters at Underglass this week! These wonderful prints of works by French artist Matisse and Russian/French Chagall both highlight sublte but different approaches to custom picture framing. Just like no painting is like another, at our frame shop here in San Francisco we always look for individual frame designs.

Chagall painting framed in gold frame

For Chagall’s Bella with Red Horse we chose a calming warm gold frame with a brushed texture because the painting itself is full of movement, color and detail. We also added a white mat with a slim remveal of a gold line to keep the art visually seperated from mat and frame. We love the choice our client made here!

For Matisse’s painting we felt a classic, detailed frame would add more style to the overall design. The forms and shapes in Matisse’s work is a bit more bold than the ornamentation of the frame and we love the mix of both!

Underglass is San Francisco’s frame shop for over 30 years. Love for art, museum quality framing and being a part of San Francisco’s exciting community is what keeps us going!
