A dog portrait on canvas. The lyrics to Shovel & Rope’s Love Song from a Dog. A client who knew exactly what they had and wanted it framed the way it deserved.
We loved working on this one.
Two Windows, One Story
The first decision was straightforward: this couldn’t be a single window mat. The portrait and the lyrics needed their own space, presented together but given room to breathe separately.
So we cut two windows. One for the dog, one for the words. Side by side, the whole thing reads like what it is – a love letter.
The Mat: Earthy, Coarse, Intentional
For the mat we went tactile. A coarse fabric with heavy grain with texture that feels like a field, grounded and warm. Hand-wrapped, which makes so much sense for this piece that this very personal. A plain mat would have felt too formal and the fabric brings you in closer.
The Frame: Because San Francisco
This is where it got fun.
The frame is a glitter finish that shifts color depending on where you’re standing, green at its core, but it moves with the light. In a city that has always embraced a little extra, it felt completely at home.
It’s also just joyful. And joy was the whole point of this piece.
What This Piece Reminded Us
Sometimes the right framing decision is about reading the room or in this case, reading the relationship between a person and their dog and a song that nails it.
