Framing for collectors
We love collectors! Our client saved more than a few political buttons over the years and decided they wanted to display them! There’s so much going on with color and visual texture so we designed an acrylic plexbox instead of a traditional frame to keep it as clean as possible.
Look at the detail in this mandala and gold frame we just finished
We are so happy how the custom frame for this mandala turned out. We were inspired by the amazing detail in the piece itself and chose a frame that has some line detail and also a traditional touch to it. A black silk mat with a fine gold fillet helped create space, calm and gives […]
Local Art framed right here in San Francisco!
We always say we are proud to be one of San Francisco’s oldest local frame shop and we are super proud to show you when we get a chance to frame local art! Local legend and style icon Billy Bragman looking like a million bucks in this photo he found of himself from a few […]
Dark frames for ( mostly ) black and white art
This week we framed this amazing Fruit Stripes Zebra in Joshua Tree and these original storyboard drawings from the Lucifer comic! Black and white art can be framed in many different frame colors but if you want to keep it dark but don’t want a satin finish black frame, what are some options? Why not […]
Why we like to use mats for your art
Look at this amazing photograph of a pack of wild African dogs, also known as painted wolves! We could have chosen a frame design that is even more simplistic and not used a mat. So why did we use it? For visual reasons we really liked how the mat helps to draw you into the […]
Stepping into the new week like Kraftwerk
KRAFTWERK is an experimental electronic band formed in Germany in 1970. They are innovators and pioneers of electronic music and among the first successful acts to popularize the genre. Looks like they were also the first to use Gorilla Glue in their hair, but we couldn’t find any concrete evidence about that. This welded frame […]
Happy Friday!
San Francisco keeps us busy with amazing art coming in! Have a look at all the different pieces and the frames we designed: This goopy, pink, lacquer frame stacked around this hammered metal frame is the perfect balance of soft and hard for these original Andy Warhol postcards! These postcards were used to promote a […]
Contemporary Art Framing
We loved the photo of the horse and the canvas print of the forest. Both deserved a minimal design contemporary frame. The photograph got a simple white frame with a glazing that protects from dust and scratches and potential UV damages. The canvas was set in an ebony walnut floater frame as dark as the […]
Simple elegance in art and frame
We love the sense of calm that this photo brings. We kept with simple elegance using a thin whitewash frame straight to the edge; no distractions. Underglass Custom Picture Framing is one of San Francisco’s oldest framing business. We started out on Townsend in the 80s, moved to Church Street in the early 90s, opened […]
