Antique scroll and oversized print on canvas frames

We really loved framing these two large, oversized pieces of art: The colorful 90” x 40” print on canvas by @android_jones is actually just a smaller part of a 43´ x 15` mural! For the antique scroll we built a cradle and were able to hide a dowel so we didn`t have to remove it. […]

Bold mats in picture frames

We love the traditional look of a bold mat! This black satin mat with a strong bevel really looks sharp with crow painting on music sheet! The ornate wood frame with its texture and dull black color complete this wall frame design. Underglass Custom Picture Framing in San Francisco is open daily from 11am to […]

San Francisco For The Weekend

Yes, we were able to frame again two San Francisco themed art works! And just as different as these pieces are we also came up with two very different custom picture framing designs. This 60”x43” photo of a container ship entering the Bay is SO striking. We used a hand wrapped fabric mat to match […]

Elegant hand wrapped mats and hand carved gold leaf frame

Donna Schuster was an award winning watercolor artist born in 1883. She moved to California in 1913 and this painting is from that era. We used two hand wrapped fabric mats and a hand carved gold leaf frame to pull on the tone and keep with the period. We also love how this custom frame […]

French design mood with this 1800’s textile pattern!

This French textile pattern is from the late 1800’s! It’s actually five panels that we hinged together and mounted as one large piece. We found the perfect linen to float it on, almost looks like it’s taken straight from the pattern! And the ornate frame completes the feel for an antique French design. We love […]

Look at the detail in this mandala and gold frame we just finished

We are so happy how the custom frame for this mandala turned out. We were inspired by the amazing detail in the piece itself and chose a frame that has some line detail and also a traditional touch to it. A black silk mat with a fine gold fillet helped create space, calm and gives […]

Using color as an option in Picture Framing

For some art pieces a hand wrapped purple silk mat is way too much, but for this @theartistshag piece it wasn’t enough, so we doubled down and used a purple fillet, too! We have so many options as picture framers, why not use them?

Choosing the right frame within a color palette

We love this photograph of a group of farm animals and its color palette of brown tones. Keeping the same feel to it we opted for a similar frame design with a colored wooden frame and a beautiful off white linen mat. Did you know we just opened our brand new Underglass Custom Picture Framing […]

Rustic and Beautiful

We chose a rustic looking frame for this image and put a hand wrapped fabric mat on it to enhance the colors and the “you are beautiful” message in it. We really love being creative as custom picture framers, thanks San Francisco for bringing us your art to frame!

Playing with color for a still life picture frame

We had fun playing with color with this still life painting! We stacked a lacquered frame inside a gold scoop picture frame with a silk liner to give depth and separation. We love our job as custom picture framers here in San Francisco!
