There’s a very specific feeling that comes with buying a piece of art.
You see it. You connect with it. Something about it feels personal, like it was meant for you. You bring it home excited… and then it leans against a wall for a while. Maybe longer than you meant it to.
And then one day, you frame it.
That’s when the magic happens again.
This Gio Black Peter drawing on an MTA map is a perfect example. The artwork already had incredible energy: layered lines over the graphic structure of the subway map, bold and expressive against that bright blue ground. It deserved to be shown in its entirety, uninterrupted.
We floated the piece in a white wash maple shadowbox frame, using an off-white mat to create the slightest reveal around the artwork. Just enough breathing room to let it stand on its own. To create a seamless, sculptural effect, we built the shadowbox walls from the same mat material so the entire interior feels intentional and cohesive.
The white wash maple frame brings a raw, tactile quality to the presentation. The subtle wood grain shows through, adding warmth and texture that plays beautifully against the layered surface of the map and drawing. Clean, but not sterile. Refined, but still organic.
When our client saw it finished, you could see that spark again, that same excitement they felt when they first bought the piece.
That’s what thoughtful custom framing does.
It doesn’t just protect your artwork. It completes it. It elevates it. It brings you back to that original emotional connection — and often makes it even stronger.
If you have artwork at home waiting to be framed, let’s change that.
