A lot of what we frame starts as a file.

At our frame shop in San Francisco, fine art printing in-house lets us stay in control to the details from the beginning. Color, scale, and material all get worked out before the piece ever hits the wall.
We use a 44” wide-format Epson printer for both fine art and photography. We love the flexibility to print across different materials!
Fine Art Printing in San Francisco – Choosing the Right Surface
The material you print on changes how the image reads.
For a clean, matte look, we often recommend fine art or cotton rag paper. These hold detail well and keep the surface soft and non-reflective.
We also print on canvas, it has a slight texture and doesn’t require glazing.
Additionally, luster photo paper can be a great choice for that classic photo paper look.
Because of this range, we usually make recommendations once we see the file.

Keeping the Process Under One Roof
Printing and framing are closely tied.
When we print in-house, we can think about both at the same time. Material, scale, and frame all come together from the start.
Underglass Custom Framing has been part of San Francisco for over 40 years, and we’ve been printing in-house for the past two. Bringing that into our process keeps things more direct and more considered.
If you’re working with a digital image and want to turn it into something physical, we’re here to help.
