We are a proudly LGBTQ+ owned frame shop in the heart of the Castro, and Pride month is our month. This year we are celebrating it the way we know best — with a frame that goes all the way.
The piece is SINNER ELLA’S FOOTPRINT by Mark Denton Esq., and when our client brought it in the brief was clear. A multicolor glitter frame was the starting point, and because that alone was never going to be enough we paired it with a grey silver fabric mat and a silver fillet that adds another layer of shimmer to the whole design. The frame, fillet and mat are all texture and sparkle with no bold color competing, so the art stays exactly where it belongs: Front and center.
Conservation framing, even for a glitter frame
Every piece we frame at Underglass gets the same conservation treatment regardless of the frame around it. This one is finished with museum glass — 99% UV filtered and virtually no reflection, so the colors in the print stay vivid and the paper stays stable for years to come.
The silver fillet also serves a practical purpose beyond the sparkle. Together with a thin spacer hidden under the lip of the frame, it keeps the art from touching the glass directly. Direct contact between paper and glass can cause sticking and moisture damage over time. The fillet and spacer create a small but important gap that protects the piece properly.
